If you need medical assistance while you’re travelling overseas, no matter what it is or how trivial, International SOS will have it covered.

Depending on what assistance you require, they will arrange it all for you:

  • Doctor that speaks your language (or a translator if a multilingual doctor isn’t available)
  • An ambulance to take you to hospital if necessary
  • The best available hospital that is most appropriate for your needs
  • Pay directly all the costs for the hospital, doctors and medicines at the time of your treatment, so you don’t have to
  • All of the medical treatment, and medicines you’ll need
  • Accommodation for your spouse
  • Accommodation for you after your treatment
  • Flights home, and transport to the airport if you are unable to travel on your planned itinerary

What is Caxton Plus?

Caxton Plus is a comprehensive global insurance product that combines an exclusive range of travel benefits only available for our Caxton cardholders. Underwritten by Hiscox and supported by International SOS and Control Risks, Caxton Plus is designed to give you the confidence that you are covered, wherever you are in the world. One of the many unique elements, is the security advice you can access over the phone before you travel, as well as 24/7 communication, on the ground global support, including emergency medical and emergency card replacement.

How do I apply?

You can apply for Caxton Plus by logging into your account on the website and purchase it in the same way you top-up your Caxton card. Caxton Plus is exclusively available to Caxton cardholders.

What happens next?

Once your payment has been processed, you’ll be covered immediately for all of the benefits and travel insurance. You’ll receive a confirmation email from us, and we’ll send you a welcome pack, outlining the key features and benefits, along with a card to keep with you that contains all of the numbers you need.

Do I need a Caxton currency card to get Caxton Plus?

Yes, Caxton Plus is exclusively available to Caxton cardholders.

Is my family covered by Caxton Plus?

Yes, your family is covered if they are travelling with you.

How do I get the Certificate of Insurance and full terms and conditions?

The Certificate of Insurance is accessible for you to download from your account page, and is in PDF format. It contains all of the Travel Insurance and Medical Cover details.

What does the travel insurance cover?

Medical and Travel assistance services, including emergency evacuation, should the worst happen. Personal accident and liability, lost money and baggage, trip cancellation, winter sports including full ski-pack cover, plus much more.

Emergency medical, evacuation and repatriation expenses

If you sustain an injury or illness while you’re away, or if you have a serious medical condition, Caxton Plus covers transport to the nearest hospital, and if necessary repatriation to your country of residence.

Medical Travel Assistance

Caxton Plus entitles you to an economy class ticket for you and your family to be repatriated if necessary, as a result of injury or illness, subject to prior approval.

Document replacement

If you accidentally forget or lose your travel documents, including your passports, you’re covered for replacement and all reasonable costs incurred to replace them, up to £1,000.

Pre-travel advice

We will provide information by telephone on your destination before you travel, for such things as; inoculations, travel visas and general advice on the destinations you’re looking to travel to.

Who are International SOS?

International SOS are the world’s leading medical and travel security assistance company, they provide travel services to Caxton Plus.

Who covers me for the insurance element of Caxton Plus?

The insurance element of Caxton Plus is provided by Hiscox Insurance Company (Guernsey) Limited who are a fully regulated insurance provider who are fully regulated by the Guernsey Financial Services Commission.

What does the winter sports benefit cover?

If you’re unable to ski through illness or injury, or adverse weather conditions, we’ll cover you for up to £500. Caxton Plus will cover you for the costs if you have to travel to another area and the additional cost of the lift passes.

What does winter sports equipment benefit cover?

Caxton Plus covers your ski equipment if it is lost, stolen or damaged while you’re away, up to £2,500, and we’ll cover any hired equipment up to £750. Provided you haven’t left your kit unattended in a public space.

Avalanche cover included?

Yes, you’re covered for travel and accommodation costs if you are prevented from arriving or leaving your ski resort for more than 12 hours, due to avalanche

Emergency Security Evacuation and Repatriation Expenses

In the event the Government recommends leaving a country or area you and your family are visiting, we arrange transport to the nearest place of safety or we’ll get you back home. We’ll also cover your accommodation, food and beverages for up to 7 days, while alternative transport home is arranged.

Child Abduction

If during your travels your children are abducted by someone other than their parents, Caxton Plus will cover you for services related to locating and recovering your children for up to 6 months. Caxton Plus will also cover you for 100% of your, and your spouse’s gross salary.

Kidnap for Ransom, Unlawful Detention and Hostage Crisis

In the event of kidnap for ransom or a hostage crisis Caxton Plus will cover the fees for assessment, mitigation and recovery services, up to £250,000. We’ll also cover 100% of your salary for up to 60 days.

Disappearance

If you disappear during your travels Caxton Plus will cover the fees and expenses to support the investigation, forensic and recovery services, legal expenses, and 100% of your salary.

Emergency Security Response

In the event of imminent threat of physical harm, while you’re away, and in our opinion such arrangements are necessary, we’ll arrange for a qualified security practitioner.

Service Provider referrals

Caxton Plus will provide you with the contact details for medical or legal service providers, including physicians, dentists, lawyers, legal practitioners, interpreters, hospitals and other relevant persons. Please note that unless the cost of the services are covered in your Caxton Plus membership you may have to cover the cost, International SOS will be able to advice.

Medical monitoring

If you require hospitalisation, International SOS will monitor your medical condition during and after hospitalisation, until you regain your normal state of health.

Medicine and medics will come to you

In the event of an emergency, were you can’t be assessed by telephone, and you can’t be moved, and local medical treatment isn’t available, International SOS will send a medic and any necessary medicine or medical supplies to your location.

What medical expenses am I covered for?

You’re covered if you incur medical expenses while you’re travelling, up to a maximum of £2,000,000.

Translation and travel support

We can arrange for a translator, mobile medical equipment and a medical escort, as part of the emergency evacuation and repatriation support.

Hospital daily benefit

If you are hospitalised while you’re travelling, Caxton Plus entitles you to £25 per day, up to a maximum of 30 days.

Personal liability cover

If you’re involved in an incident while you’re travelling, and you are liable for damage or accidental loss, Caxton Plus covers you for up to £1,000,000.

Loss or delay of baggage

Caxton Plus covers you for theft, damage or accidental loss of your baggage up to £1,000. If your baggage is delayed by more than 4 hours, you’re covered for £25 per hour up to a maximum of £480.

Loss of money

Caxton Plus covers you for theft, or accidental loss up to £500.

Who is eligible to apply for Caxton Plus?

To be eligible you have to be a Caxton cardholder, between the ages of 13 – 76. And includes family members who are travelling with the Caxton Plus account holder. For full Terms & Conditions see the Certificate of Insurance.

How much does Caxton Plus cost?

£160 per year.

How long does Caxton Plus cover me for?

Caxton Plus runs for 12 months and will automatically renew on month 12. We will remind you by email at month 11 to let you know your Caxton Plus is renewing, and how to opt-out if you no longer want it.

Do you cover any pre-existing medical conditions?

No. we do not cover pre-existing medical conditions.

How can I cancel Caxton Plus?

You have 14 days to cancel Caxton Plus from the date you first buy it.
